The Inescapable, Imponderable, Unavoidable Art of Losing
01/13/2018 12:09
From the poet Elizabeth Bishop: "The art of losing isn't hard to master; so many things seem filled with the intent /to be lost that their loss is no disaster/ Lose something every day/ Accept the fluster / of lost door keys, the hour badly spent."
In other words, get used to it, because we have no choice. Accept, accept.
The thing about learning is that it requires one to take note of the constant little losses, and at the same time, not lose heart. Or faith. That's the trick.
From Thornton Wilder: "There is the land of the living and the land of the dead. The bridge is survival, the only love, the only meaning."
If losing is an art, love is the means, the method, the end-all.
