Happy Birthday, Dear Grandma, Wherever You Are
12/10/2011 15:13My grandmother, Dorothy Schulte Baillie, was born on this day in 1918. I lost her 22 years ago. As she was with me in all ways possible and meaningful from the day of my birth - and God knows I needed her - I was able to be with her at her last moment here on earth. I don't know where she is now, and I also do - does that make sense?
Grandma left me on Memorial Day of 1989, so I can never quite remember the date of her death. Very fitting, I think, as whenever Memorial Day rolls around as the last Monday in May, I remember, remember, and remember some more. She would not have wanted me to think of only of loss, and thanks to some careful cosmic planning I guess, I don't have to.
